We have combined the ability to search the cemetery registry AND the marriage database so that dates of marriage and death can be recorded as well as earlier or later generations found.

For example, if your earliest known ancestor was Ezekiel Jacob Isaac you could search for Jacob Isaac. This will show brothers or sisters of Ezekiel, potentially whether Jacob was buried in Calcutta and who his wife was.

Until very recently, there were no surnames. Sometimes a family name like Musri, was replaced by a more “anglicized” one such as Ezekiel, or Abraham to Braham. When searching for ancestors, the best method is to put in an individual’s given name and that of his or her father if known. If you only know a woman and her husband, type her given name and then her husband’s. This will give you a potential match in the cemetery registry. From there you can type in the string of names attached to her husband to look for the marriage.

For example, if you know that your great-grandparents’s names were Dinah who was married to an Aaron, type in Dinah Aaron. This should bring up a burial listing. It might say Dinah Aaron Solomon Aaron. Using that information, search for Aaron Solomon Aaron and it may bring up a wedding with all the additional information mentioned in the above paragraphs.
